This week in the Quiet ADHD Club - 17 February
Procrastifaffing, accountability and double body-doubling
Pre-S: I chatted about habits and a late ADHD diagnosis in a Live with Toni from the Shelf Help Club on Monday evening. You can watch the replay by clicking here.
Hi lovely,
Somehow January had 97 days in it and February is zipping by in the blink of an eye – why is that?
There’s a tricky thing I’m trying to navigate. I’m aware that by our nature if I don’t remind you each week about the accountability thread, the body-doubling sessions, and whatever else I create for you in the Quiet ADHD Club, you might miss it or forget about it.
To give you the best chance to making use of everything available to you it makes sense to message you about them.
However, I want the emails to be helpful reminders and encouraging nudges, and not to feel overwhelming.
So, if you don’t want to receive emails you can choose to switch them off.
To change notifications go to the Substack website and click on your image in the bottom left corner of the screen. Then, click on Settings in the pop-up menu and scroll down to Notifications. Select ‘Prefer push’ to NOT be sent emails. This way you’ll still be able to read, listen or watch posts in the Club on the Substack app or website, you just won’t get emails about them.
I’m a great user of calendar reminders and alerts so feel free to add ‘check accountability thread’ as a repeat on Mondays, and ‘body-doubling session’ with the Zoom links as a repeat on Tuesdays and Thursdays (there’s one repeating link for Tuesdays and a different, repeating link for Thursdays).
Doubling our body-doubling sessions
Which brings me on to news that we now have TWO body-doubling sessions each week!
I find body-doubling sessions on Zoom really helpful, and it’s lovely to get to see your faces and have a little chat, plus I want to give you more opportunity to get this support.
So, our regular weekly body-doubling sessions on Zoom take place on:
Tuesdays 10-11am and Thursdays 2-3pm UK time.
You’ll find the Zoom links at the bottom of this post and on this permanent page:
Have you been procrastifaffing?
You’re not the only one! Procrastination is such a challenge for us ADHDers which is why we’re exploring it this month.
You’ll find the two Exploration posts here.
In Part 1 we look at why we find it so hard to start a task, even when it’s something we want to do.
And in Part 2 we explore the practical actions we can take to overcome procrastination, find motivation and do what we need or want to.
You have the option to read or listen to the Explorations, whatever’s most useful to you.
How I discovered my ADHD
I shared a post at the weekend all about how I discovered my ADHD – the struggle, the confusion, the learning, the realisation and the diagnosis. Because this is a pretty personal post I wanted to feel safe to open up which is why it’s not entirely available to the general public.
Want it all?
Remember you can access EVERYTHING in the Quiet ADHD Club – the explorations, the accountability, the body-doubling, my personal posts, plus more to come – as a paid member. Click on the button below to upgrade to full membership (annual and founding members get extra treats too!).
Accountability thread 17-21 February
What do you want or need to do this week? It could be anything like:
finish writing a report
go to the gym
make a phone call
tidy a cupboard
or anything at all
Whatever you’re struggling to do – this isn’t just for work or boring chores, this goes for making space for what gives you joy and takes care of your mental, physical or emotional health too – accountability can help you to actually do it. And then you’ll feel so good for having done it.
