Want to listen to me read this to you? Scroll to the end.

In Part 1 we looked at several reasons why our ADHD makes task initiation so difficult and why we procrastinate so much:

  • The pressure to be productive from our capitalist society

  • Messages we took on in childhood

  • Perfectionism and our intense dislike of not doing something well or right

  • Overwhelm from time agnosia and the task feeling too big and unmanageable

  • A lack of interest, reward or novelty

  • Low levels of dopamine

Overcoming procrastination Part 2

Here in Part 2 we’re looking at what we can do to overcome procrastination and find motivation – the practical steps we can take to get going on what we need or want to do. This is not an exhaustive list and not everything works for everyone – we may have ADHD but we’re still unique individuals after all.

Try out different ideas and see what works for you. It’s good to have a variety of strategies (we like to keep things interesting, remember!) and different tools work for different situations and at different times.
