Want to listen to me read this to you? Scroll to the end.

This is a big topic so I’ve split our Exploration into two parts. Part 1 focuses on why we procrastinate and find starting a task so difficult.

Then Part 2 looks at what we can do, the practical steps we can take to get going on what we need or want to do.

You can listen to me read this to you by scrolling to the audio at the bottom.

Overcoming procrastination Part 1

There’s a lot tied up in this issue but before we dive in let’s get one thing clear from the start:

Your procrastination, your lack of motivation, your struggle to get on with a task is not a character flaw. It doesn’t mean that you’re lazy or wrong or not trying hard enough. You procrastinate, you find it difficult to get started on a task because of how your brain is wired.

Procrastination is very common in people with ADHD and it can affect every part of your life and every kind of task imaginable. From opening post to writing a report for work, from washing up to booking a holiday – any task that we want or need to do can feel impossible to start.
